FAQ

How often should my child go to practice?

Swimming is a great sport for the body and the mind. If you child can make every practice, they will have more fun and see a greater improvement. But, we understand that families are pulled in many directions. Make as many practices as you deem appropriate. Our coaches will be there every day for them. You can make a practice schedule that fits your lifestyle.

How important is it to volunteer?

The Dunmoor Swim Team is a volunteer run team. Some teams require a set number of volunteer hours and they charge a fee if those hours are not met.

We have chosen not to do it that way yet because our generous families have stepped forward to volunteer on their own to help make our swim meets happen. We understand that not everyone will be able to volunteer at every meet (we know this!), but we do expect every family to volunteer when they can. We have have to have many volunteers in order to run meets. If you can't help at the meets, you should be helping those that are at the meets! Help each other. Help our kids. Help this neighborhood swim team thrive!

How long is the average swim meet?

The average swim meet lasts three hours and begin at 5:30pm. This is contingent upon factors such as weather, size of the opposing team, and the general flow of the meet.

When do I arrive for a swim meet?

It’s very important that your child be at the warm-up period prior to the meet (4:00pm for a home meet and 4:20pm for an away meet). First check in at your child’s bullpen area.

Can I leave when my child is done swimming at a meet?

We will be teaching a team concept to the children. We encourage everyone to stay until the end of the meet and cheer their teammates. However, if a child needs to leave (for bedtime per se!), then please have them check with the coaching staff and make sure they are not in any end of the meet relays. A relay can not swim if everyone is not there!

Can siblings watch during practices?

Yes, this is encouraged and will hopefully develop future swimmers! However, the coaches and team volunteers are not babysitters, so you MUST watch your children. Non team members are not allowed in the pool during practice times.

Siblings may also play on the playground.PLEASE DO NOT PROP OPEN THE POOL GATE NEAR THE PLAYGROUND AREA. If your child leaves the pool area, they should still remain under your supervision and use the main pool gate to re-enter the pool area.

What is the policy for poor weather?

Meet and practice changes will be communicated via email. If you have doubts, check your email. If you did not receive anything, the practice or meet will be held. Care and safety of swimmers and spectators is of utmost importance in the event of inclement weather.

Thunder/Lightning requires a minimum 30 min delay from swimming, but not automatic cancellation. Decisions are based on the continuing weather pattern and where we are in the meet/practice. These decisions are made by the coaches and team rep for Dunmoor and opposing team if at a meet. Any and all decisions are made with the safety of everyone at the meet in mind; and are not made lightly. More information on the Atlanta Swim Association inclement weather policy can be found on their website:www.atlantaswimming.com
